Charlie makes me laugh

We left Niagara at 11 and headed off back into the USA. We both agreed that for people in their 20's and 30's with no kids, you would only really need a full day and a night there as there isn't a ton to do. We wish we spent a night in Toronto but next time.

Border patrol is a drive thru and is pretty easy so that was great.

We drove through upstate New York where there are way too many tolls and gas is at $3.75. Once we hit Pennsylvania we were happy to be in a new state and cruised right alongside Lake Eerie which we could only slightly see from the highway. As we drove on, we saw someone using two horses to plow a huge field on the side of the highway!

We arrived in Columbus Ohio around 5 and it was completely not what I expected at all! The area is artsy and full of cute unique stores. We were lucky enough to see and stay with Stefanie and her husband Josh. Stefanie was my first ever roomate in college and Josh lived in the tower next to us. They have been together for almost 9 years so far, and seem closer and happier than I have ever seen them.

The funniest thing was we managed to get there while there was a huge Italian festival right in front of their house. 20,000 people were expected to show up. If we hadn't had so much Italian food in Niagara Falls (in fact that's mostly the restaurants there) we would have stayed there for some food, but instead we plowed through the huge crowds of people to this delicious restaurant called Haiku a few blocks away. Afterwards we went onto this bar called Betty. Its one of 3 bars in the area that is owned and operated by women. The walls were full of 1960's photos of cartoon style women.

I must say, the whole town has a very kitchy, young feel, and I was also surprised and happy to see tons of Obama supporters everywhere. Stef and Josh informed us that Columbus is the most liberal part of Ohio.

And lastly I must mention Charlie. The 1 year old golden lab mix. Charlie is quite the character and he can do every trick in the book. He has one exceptionally special trick which made me laugh my head off, but Stef and Josh want to keep this trick their little secret so we'll leave it at that.

We'll certainly miss them, but Chicago calls and we can't wait.

I want to know this trick! Is this something I can teach the J and Lucy?

Let Steph and Josh know that I may be passing through to meet Charlie.

Lots of love, ~y
